A Tribute To Timber

July 2, 2015

We recently lost a wonderful part of the Pets & Pals staff.  The picture on the left is our wonderful boy when he arrived on May 5, 2005 at 2 years old.  He was named "Doong".  He was purchased in Korea by a serviceman who was stationed there.  Due to transfers in the military, Doong was surrendered to the shelter for re-homing.  From day 1 it was clear that he was a very affectionate dog.  Our director, Sue was very drawn to him.  Once processed in, Sue decided that a better name for Doong would be "Timber", a great name for an Alaskan Malamute of his great stature.  After a few days Sue decided to adopt Timber and he became part of her family, as well as part of the Pets & Pals family.  Timber worked in the office daily greeting everyone who came through the doors with a wagging tail and usually a few licks on the hand.  He was never aggressive with any new dogs or cats that came in to the office.  He often accompanied Sue to outside adoption awareness events or school presentations.  He never failed to draw attention to himself because of his beauty and gentle nature.  Timber never met a stranger--he loved everyone.  Timber began to show his age a couple of years ago when he was diagnosed with nerve damage in his h

ind legs and arthritis.  He took medications that allowed him more flexibility in his joints and that helped him tremendously for a time. In May he began to have difficulty getting up and down.  Sadly on the 20th of May, 2015 Sue had to make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Timber because he was unable to use his legs any longer.  We were able to enjoy Timber for 10 great years and will always have fond memories of his time with us.
